Pioneer Courthouse Square, Portland, Oregon

Image
It was sunny last weekend so, we decided to visit Portland, Oregon , we went to few sightseeing place one among them was Pioneer Courthouse Square , a public open place infront of Pioneer Courthouse - a federal building built in 1875. This square occupies 40,000-square-foot space which opened in 1984. We went to this place when we parked our car in the Fox Tower garage parking which costs $ 4/hr. and $8/ all day. Pioneer Courthouse Square is also nicknamed as Portland's Living room . It's a hub perfect for people walking around, sitting and relaxing. There was less crowd and it was mostly people just relaxing on the steps enjoying the outdoors view while wearing masks and maintaining social distancing. I heard this place hosts a farmer's market every week. Not sure if the tradition still continues during this Covid Pandemic. Generally many events are held at Pioneer Courthouse Square every year, some are free sh

Old Taste of India - food cart/kiosk, Portland, Oregon

Image
Last Saturday , we visited Portland, Oregon and we went to this amazing place for lunch known as Old Taste of India , a food cart/kiosk with a wide varieties of Indian edibles from curries & tandoori breads to wraps & appetizers. This kiosk is situated in downtown Portland opposite to " City of Portland permit center" building. We ordered Paneer Butter Masala, veggie wraps, Vegetarian biryani for take-away lunch and when I asked for mild spice, the woman at the counter (owner) is so sweet, made us a fresh batch which came out perfectly mild spiced with tasty paneer. The quality and quantity was superb for the price I paid for. Note - You should  definitely try their Indian Chai.  Attaching the Menu pics below for ur review. I wholeheartedly have nothing but amazing things to say about this place. Will definitely visit again whenever we visit Oregon. One of the best Indian food kiosk in Portland downtown! Stay Safe frie

Shiva-Vishnu Hindu Temple, Livermore, California, USA

Image
Brahma, The Creator Vishnu, The Preserver Shiva, The Destroyer Shiva-Vishnu Hindu Temple  is easily one of the best Hindu temples in California established in 1977. I know I'm biased πŸ˜€ but if you visit this place once you would definitely understand why I said so.  My family and I have been visiting this temple for a long time now on regular basis. The temple is situated in Livermore, Bay area and designed with a South Indian style tower also called "Gopuram" on the top like Tirupati architecture, the temple has a grand elevation and Dhwaja stumbha (flagstaff), a common feature of South Indian Hindu temples. Situated in a peaceful location with excellent Indian architecture. The facilities at this temple are well-maintained by volunteers and there is a lot of free car parking available within the temple facility. There is a kiosk for purchasing special Prasad like "laddus", "Vadas" which tastes very similar to the one's i

Coit Tower, San Francisco, California

Image
Coit Tower was on my list since I read about it in my Son's History book long time ago in regarding the murals drawn on the interior walls depicting labor and California life during the Great Depression and seen the tower in some Hollywood movies. And am glad I visited this place many years ago. So far I visited just once. The murals and paintings on the walls are stunning , be sure to walk through and check them  before you take your ride in the elevator. Coit Tower, a slim and graceful white concrete monument rising from the top of Telegraph Hill, a welcoming beacon to visitors and residents alike.  It has an observation deck, tickets can be purchased for the deck in the gift shop near the elevator, provides 360-degree views of the San Francisco city and bay, including the Golden Gate and Bay bridges. Once you purchase your ticket you wait in line for elevator in the lobby which is filled with fresco murals. After you exit the elevator, there are around 30 to 40 more steps to cl

Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco, California

Image
Golden Gate Bridge , a Historical Landmark with a beautiful view of Pacific Ocean, Angel Island and Alcatraz Island. Golden Gate is an iconic to San Francisco so you definitely have to stop to admire it at least once if  you are staying in US or visiting to California ( from another country) for vacation.  I heard so much about this bridge since my schooling/ college days in India, saw it on TV and Hollywood movies but coming to California and seeing it every time with your eyes you still get awestruck. The view never gets old, believe me, I've been over this bridge many times in my lifetime via car and have walked on it too (too many times to count). The bridge is only 1.7 miles long, but there are lot of people here to walk or visit this iconic structure. On the east side of the bridge are paths for the pedestrians while the west side of the bridge are for the bicyclists. I would definitely recommend heading out on a weekday for a run, hike or

Kerry Park, Seattle, Washington

Image
My family and I were out during Christmas holidays to visit some local places in Washington and one day we decided to head to Kerry Park because it was a beautiful sunny afternoon. 😊  It is a small park located on the south side of Queen Anne Hill in Seattle. People visit this park for the view of the city of Seattle including the iconic Space Needle which is few minutes walk up from this viewpoint and view of Mount Rainier as the background. Definitely a must see for people visiting Seattle for the first time! We took in the view but chose not to linger much as when we arrived there were many people around 15-20 not crowded but some people had mask on and few didn't, so we had our mask on and practiced social distancing and didn't stay for much longer. Although, the neighborhood is amazing to watch. If you want to stay for much longer and take multiple photos, I suggest arrive as early as possible on a good sunny day.  Ps: If y
