Fort Bragg, Mendocino, California.

Fort Bragg is a city in Mendocino in California.

I was looking at my photo albums and thought I would definitely write about this beautiful place which we visited almost a decade ago ( in 2011). We visited Mendocino especially Fort Bragg in California, I remember, it wasn't jam-packed with tourists, but the weather was very uncertain since it was windy, cloudy and later sunny.

We had planned some light sight seeing, lazily walking around to different places like Chandelier tree (https://sk-digilance.blogspot.com/2021/05/chandelier-tree-leggett-california.html), Confusion hill (https://sk-digilance.blogspot.com/2021/05/confusion-hill-leggett-california.html ) and beaches like Glass Beach and then decided to try out the Skunk Train (famous for its Rail tours originated in 1925) which is a steam locomotive that crosses the historic Redwood forests of the Noyo River Canyon.

Skunk Train: πŸš…πŸš„

There are few rail tour packages, but we selected "Pudding Creek Express" Package, I think the train runs @ 10 AM from Fort Bragg and a brief stop at Glen Blair Junction. It's a 90 minutes ride with 7-mile roundtrip through the redwoods and along Pudding Creek Estuary. Once u get the tickets, they inform the Guests should arrive at least 30 minutes prior to departure.

Ps: The food in train was average in taste/quality, but wasn't really the reason for our trip. So feel free to bring a light packed lunch/ snacks incase you or kids get hungry.

There will be plenty of time and opportunities to take pictures of the train and the lovely trees in the backdrop.🌳🌳

There is another place from where Skunk Train departs ie., Willits, California. Its a city in Mendocino County too similar to Fort Bragg. Its also where extensive redwood forests begins. Skunk Train Rail tour offers packages like Wolf Tree Turn, Easter Express, Pumpkin Express , Christmas Express etc. as per festive season.

One of my close friend and her family visited this place after we told them about our experience in Mendocino.  She shared her experience with me after her trip, she told me about her beautiful 16-mile ride into the redwoods on the Skunk Train from Willits to the Wolf Tree passing through a Tunnel #2 and making a short stop at Crowley before re-boarding to head back to Willits.

Although the tickets very little pricey but the costs to maintain this railroad is also expensive. So , I was ok with spending especially when my son used to love train rides.

Visit their website for further details about the tours - https://www.skunktrain.com/
