Hoover Dam and Bridge, Nevada, USA

When you think of Nevada, the name "Las Vegas" pops in everyone's head. The dazzling lights at night, casinos and the famous Vegas Strip. πŸ’ƒπŸ•Ί

Check my blog article on Las Vegas-  https://sk-digilance.blogspot.com/2021/06/las-vegas-strip-nevada-usa.html

But, there are many places and landmarks in Nevada we generally tend to miss especially this historic landmark "Hoover Dam", infront of Mike O'Callaghan–Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge or Hoover Dam Bypass @ Boulder City. Its a 40 minutes drive away from the Vegas strip.

Whenever I visited Las Vegas in past, I would definitely visit Hoover Dam with an arch bridge and arch gravity dam which is a must see popular tourist destination when you go to Las Vegas in Nevada.

First time when I visited Hoover Dam many years ago, it was very impressive and even bigger, more massive than I imagined with an incredible structure and with largest hydroelectric power station.

It was the US’s tallest dam (with 726 foot high) in the 1930's when it was built but, now, it’s the second-tallest dam in the U.S next to Oroville Dam in California built in 1968 with 770 foot high.

The coolest thing is that you can go from Nevada to Arizona or vice versa by crossing the dam. We had so much fun for the first time when we visited with our son who was in elementary and was learning about US historic landmarks. The bridge stretch over the Colorado River between Arizona and Nevada. This is truly a experience to see it and walk over it.

Pacific time zone (Nevada)

Mountain time zone (Arizona)

With an amazing piece of incredible infrastructure, the dam has the ability to stand not only in two states (Nevada and Arizona) at the same time but also two different time zones i.e.., Pacific time zone (Nevada) and Mountain time zone (Arizona). How fascinating, Isn't it? ⏱

Parking was free when we visited many years ago but we parked in the farther parking lots. There is a paid parking too if you choose to park near by and go on a tour including museum but, if you don't there's still lots to see though. (Bring cashπŸ’Έ for parking).

The museum inside with the exhibits and various films will definitely teach you and your something.  🎞 πŸ“½

The history behind the Hoover Dam is really interesting and cool if you're into engineering.

Hoover dam is one of US’s 7 modern Civil Engineering Wonders declared in 1994.

Science is also a miracle ! Err, Scientific Miracle ?πŸ€”πŸ˜‰

Like many visitors, We also tested the water gravity on the Hoover Dam and oh Boy πŸ˜€, we were so surprised to see drops of water actually defying the gravity instead of falling down.πŸ’§ I think the arch design/structure of the dam created an upward draft by the wind instead of traveling downwards. I also heard on Hoover dam gravity doesn't seem to exist at all. Sounds interesting right?🀩

This Dam is named after Herbert Hoover, 31st President of US in 1929 during Great Depression. Herbert Hoover was initially a Secretary of Commerce under President Warren Harding( 29th President of US) and President Calvin Coolidge (30th President of US). Herbert Hoover had degree in geology and a lucrative career as a mining engineer.

Ps: Please keep in mind that if you're planning to walk on the Hoover Dam, hydrate yourself, drink lots of water/juices while walking the Dam since it gets so HOT especially during summer.πŸ§ƒπŸ§‹πŸ₯€

Note: Snacks/Food and souvenirs are available for purchase @  the visitor center by the parking structure.
